Hry plans campaign to protect girl child

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may address a women’s rally in Haryana on January 22 with a view to start a campaign for protecting the girl child, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Wednesday.
The nationwide campaign will be flagged off from Haryana considering the low sex ratio in the state. The CM made the announcement while launching an initiative in Gurgaon for providing free treatment to women heart patients.
Medanta - The Medicity with Heart Care Foundation of India, launched the ‘ Betiyan Hain Anmol, Bachao Dil’ Se Campaign on Wednesday. “Our government and the Centre are committed to providing a safe environment and better education to women. The PM may also address a rally here on January 22,” said Khattar.
As part of the campaign, chairman and managing director of Medanta, Dr Naresh Trehan operated upon 300 patients.
Hundreds of girls in Haryana die of heart diseases as they cannot afford treatment. “The campaign will focus on the daughters of Haryana who often lose their life battle to the sons of the family,” said Dr KK Aggarwal, president, Heart Care Foundation of India and secretary general elect the Indian Medical Association.
Trehan also sought help from the state to set up a 400-bed children’s hospital for specialised heart care in Gurgaon. Girls suffering from heart diseases can apply for the benefits of the fund by calling on its helpline number +919958771177 or log on to heartcarefoundation.org. HTC
